Education/Counseling Background: I grew up in Olympia and graduated from Capital High School. Afterwards I attended William Penn University in Iowa on a soccer scholarship, graduating with a degree in Sociology and a minor degree in English. Afterwards I worked as an AmeriCorps Volunteer supporting foster and homeless youth. I continued working with young adults at Nisqually Middle School as the coordinator of the After School Detention program and a para substitute in the North Thurston Public School District. While attending Saint Martins University to attain my Masters Degree in School Counseling, I worked at Morningside, supporting adults with disabilities in the work place. I completed my Counseling internship at A.G. West Black Hills High School and began work at Centralia Middle School shortly after. I am excited to be back in the Tumwater School District supporting students and families. Go Firewolves! | |

See me to register or withdraw your student and when you need to update any of your information such as address, phone numbers, contacts, or your email address. I will assist you with setting up your Skyward Family Access and walk you through the login process. When you call the Counseling Center, I will be your first contact and I will do my best to connect you with Margaret or Sarah. When they are with a student or out of the office, please leave them a detailed voicemail and a phone number where you can be reached and they will respond to your call as quickly as possible. Some of the other things we can provide you with in the Counseling Center are District Calendars, Free and Reduced Application Forms, and application forms from classes such as Leadership, Yearbook, and Teacher Assistant. We also have information about college planning and family oriented programs/classes in the Tumwater District. We want your Counseling Center visit to be a comfortable and good one and we strive to answer your questions and help you in a timely manner. Stop by and visit us soon.

Individual Planning
Individual planning for academic, career or personal/social needs is available all year to all students. Students may seek academic advising or support for personal/social concerns by completing a ‘School Counselor Request Form’ or by teacher/parent referral. Students are informed at the beginning of the year and reminded at the semester of the request form and the confidentiality statement (see below). Multiple referrals or unresolved issues may result in parent/guardian contact, consultation and/or referral for additional services.
School Guidance Curriculum
In collaboration with all TSD secondary schools, a program for career development and future planning is under development. Through this program students will start their High School and Beyond Plan in 8thgrade, mapping out their high school course work as it aligns with graduation requirements and career/personal interests. This plan will stay with the student throughout high school and is a fluid, ever-changing document.
Confidentiality Statement
Information students share with the school counselor is confidential. The student’s right to privacy is guarded as much as permitted by law, ethics and school rules. The school counselor is obligated to break confidentiality when there is a potential harm to the student or others, concern of neglect or abuse, or a court of law that requires testimony or student records. The school counselor often consults with other school professionals, but only shares information necessary to achieving the goals of the consultation.
